Mexborough Town 1 Gainsborough Trinity 1
At Mexborough, before a rare crowd.
The opening stages witnessed strong attacks by both side, in one of which Hopkinson gave Bagshaw a beauty to save. Westwood cleared splendidly as Gainsborough pressed heavily, after which the home goal had a narrow escape, Tayles saving a grand shot at full length, and other shots from Twigg cannoning off the packed defence.
After 25 minutes Biggs let in the visitors, and Langham beat Tayles, who was evidently taken by surprise.
The home team soon recovered, for after Tayles had again slaved splendidly, they attacked. Gosling missing a nice chance. At the other end a shot from Foxall hit the cross-bar.
At the interval the Trinity were a goal the good.
Each custodian was quickly brought into play on resuming. After 12 minutes Rothery equalised, and for a few minutes Mexborough fairly outplayed their opponents, whose goal narrowly escaped further downfall. As the game drew to a close both sides tried hard to obtain the lead.
