Doncaster Rovers 1 Mexborough Town 0

A heavy shower of rain did not interfere with the attendance on the Intake ground, at Doncaster, yesterday, when the Rovers played the third of their series of holiday fixtures, the visitors being Mexborough. A high wind interfered with correct play, and Doncaster in the first half, had to contend with the wind, and had the son their faces. Mexborough kept play in the Rovers’ half, and Palmer got in a grand shot which Thompson cleared. Mexborough were unable to improve upon three corners. The Rovers broke loose several times through Bramall and Goodson, but each time their efforts were nullified by Clamp and Birch. Taylor missed a chance, and afterwards Goodson and Taylor allowed similar chances to escape them, and Charles shot wide of the post. Doncaster played splendidly right up to half-time, when neither side had scored.

On re-starting Doncaster became the aggressors, and held Mexborough in their own half, Taylor had a couple of shots at goal, the first going wide. On the second occasion he took the ball from the centre and completely beat Clark with a long fast shot. The venue of play still continued in the Mexborough half, and Clark was frequently called upon, Taylor, Thackrah, and Charles each making good attempts at goal, which the Mexborough custodian dealt with in a masterly manner. Mexborough only once got over the half-way line in twenty minutes, through the aid of Hutchinson and Murphy, but Edwards had no- difficulty in transferring. After some time Mexborough crossed over and were awarded a penalty. Gadsby took the kick, and Edwards very cleverly cleared in the last minute.

Result: Doncaster Rovers 1 goal- Mexborough 0 goal.
