A Gate-Money Question
By request, we point out to supporters of the Mexboro’ club that there is a difference between the gate-money in Wharncliffe Cup and Sheffield League matches. In the Wharncliffe League the admission is fourpence, by order of the Sheffield Association, while for Sheffield League and South Yorkshire Alliance matches the admission fee is threepence.
Saturday’s Team
The Mexborough committee had a difficult task to select a team for Saturday’s match against Denaby, but ultimately it was resolved to play the following combination:—
Goal: Taylor.
Backs: Powell, Westwood.
Half-backs: Shaw, W. Biggs (captain), McNeill.
Forwards: Simmons, Rodgers, Hakin, Gosling, Rothery.
Reserve, Groves. Linesman, H. Smith.
The Denaby Team Against Mexboro’
On Tuesday evening the committee of the Denaby United Football Club selected the team which will be played against Mexboro’ on Saturday, in the Wharncliffe Charity League competition, the representatives chosen being:—
Goal: Hancock.
Backs: Welsh, Lawley.
Half-backs: Nimrod, Hosey, Chatfield.
Forwards: Lindley, Arnold, Binney, Lavery, Roper.
Reserve, Marshall.
Welsh, Binney, Lavery and Roper are the introductions to the team. Welsh and Lavery hail from Barnsley, Binney from Worksop, and Roper from Mexboro’.
