In a remarkable contrast to Saturday’s game, Denaby and Cadeby gave their worst performance of the season at Tickhill Square on Monday, when  they  were beaten by their “Derby” rivals. Mexboro’, in a return game which gave Mexborough the “double.’

Without minimising Mexborough’s superiority in any way, it is only true to say that Denaby contributed to their own defeat in no small degree. Three batsmen literally threw their wickets away —Ellis when he ran himself out. Shephard In a rather more excusable error of judgment, and Howson should have avoided the stroke which dismissed him after a start which held every promise of a lively and profitable innings.

Denaby, set to get 162, lost their first four wickets for 20 In 20 minutes, and from this reverse they never recovered, though K Bacon, deputising for George Allen as captain, made a fighting 46.

For Mexborough, W Norman hit five fours and a six in his 51, and he and J. Richards (34) put on 49 for Mexborough’s third wicket        C. E. Bayes, bowling throughout the Denaby Innings. had 6 for 37, while for Denaby, Bullard took 5 for 46 and R Cory 4 for 49.
