Chief Scout’s Visit

Mexborough Area Plans

Lord Somers, the Chief Scout, will visit Yorkshire from June 20th to 22nd, and will attend a Rally and demonstration in his honour at Doncaster. This will be his first visit as Chief Scout to Yorkshire, and Associations taking part will include Doncaster, Mexborough, Maltby, Selby and Goole.

A special meeting of the Executive Committee of the Mexborough and District Local Association of Boy Scouts was held on Tuesday, Mr. G. Green presiding, to receive suggestions from troop representatives regarding the Rally, and to hear what each troop would undertake to demonstrate in National service.

The Committee agreed that there was very little time left to make extensive preparations for the Rally, but said they were willing to co-operate in any desired way and would heartily endorse all that was being done at Doncaster. The leaders and representatives of each troop gave details to the Secretary as to what their troops were prepared to offer in the way of National Service demonstrations, and these details were forwarded to Doncaster, where the Rally would be co-ordinated.

It was decided to hold an Executive Committee meeting at the “Times” Office on June 10th at 7 p.m. The Chairman appealed to every troop in the area served by the Committee to send a representative to this meeting.
