This Photograph of a Yorkshire Council Eleven and a Select Eleven, taken at Mexborough’s Hampden Road ground, has been lent to us by Fred Godfrey, who is pictured second from the right on the back row. Fred was scorer for the Mexborough Athletic Cricket Club when he was 16.

Also shown are Eric Brookes (second from the left on the second row); and George Pope; Sir Leary Constantine. (seated next to him); Martindale (third from the right), and St. John Hill (on his right).

The event was a charity match in aid of Mexborough Montagu Hospital, held in 1933.
