Browbeaten Mexboro’ Man.

October 1919

Sheffield Daily Telegraph – Tuesday 14 October 1919

Browbeaten Mexboro’ Man.

Mr. A. Manson, a member of the Mexborough and District Employment Committee, tendered his resignation to the committee yesterday.

Councillor Roberts said the reason why Mr, Manson desired to resign was duo to the great amount of criticism which had been levelled him those people who were usually conspicuous by their absence.

Criticism was generally on account of the allowance which was made to the members of the committee for the time which they lost when attending the meetings.

Mr. Smith said he was sorry to hear of Mr. Manson’s action, but was not surprised as he was being browbeaten by particular individuals, who pointed the finger at him, and said he was the man who hindered their wives and daughters from obtaining their out-of-work donation, while at the same time he himself was getting paid every time attended the committee. That was not the case, said Mr. Smith, as the members only got compensation for the actual time lost at work.

It decided to ask Mr. Manson to reconsider his decision.
