Mexborough Girl’s Success in Morecambe Competition

This photograph of Miss Joyce Pearson, 21years-old daughter of Mr and Mrs G.F. Pearson, of 45 Doncaster Rd, Mexborough, was published in the South Yorkshire Times, on August 22 last year, when she was chosen for the final on August ’22nd last year, when we she was chosen for the final of a National Bathing Beauty contest at Morecambe, As a result she received “fan mail” from Serviceman in the Middle East, Italy, and the Far East, and one admirer sent her a pair of nylon stockings

At Second Attempt.

Although she was unplaced in the final of the competition last year, Miss Pearson was determined to try again this year. Last week she was one of 22 entrants who were judged by Izzy Bonn, the stage and radio star at Morecambe, in the fifth heat of the Contest, which /is organised by “The Sunday Dispatch.” Miss Pearson was the winner, and will compete in the final with about 20 other finalists later this year.

Her main ambitions are to go onto the stage, or become a mannequin, and only ill health has prevented her from following them up. Miss Pearson’s mother told a “South Yorkshire Times” reporter on Monday that Joyce made up her mind to take a stage career when she was only 10 years of age.

As a result of her success last year she was invited to model for publicity photographs, which were later used in an advertisement by a large engineering company.

Now Miss Pearson is eagerly awaiting the final of the competition, which may well prove to be the key in the fulfilment of her ambitions.
