Missed Penalty Prevents Barnsley From Heading Table.
Barnsley Reserves, following six successive home wins, were only able to force a goalless draw with Mexborottgh Athletic, yesterday, and missed a chance of heading the Midland League table.
Against Mexborough, Barnsley had many opportunities.
Storer, standing a few yards from goal, headed over the bar an excellent centre from Gibbs, and on one occasion, when Morris was well placed, he preferred to give the ball to a colleague. Barnsley could not even turn to good account a penalty kick. Batty’s shot being stopped by Ward, who did valiant work.
Barnsley had two-thirds of the play, Mexborough’s visits Barnsley’s goal being very rare. Mexborough adopted a vigorous defensive policy.
