Former Mexborough Vicar Honoured

The Rev. E. H. P. Rawlins, who in 1945 left Mexborough, where he had been Vicar for the previous eight years, to become Vicar of Goole, has been appointed a Canon of Sheffield Cathedral.

Mr. Rawlins who left behind him a host of Mexborough friends, came to Mexborough in 1937 from St. Paul’s, Norton Lees, Sheffield, in succession to the Rev. E. B. A. Somerset. His work among the younger members of the church at yo Mexborough was outstanding.

He served as a special constable during the war and was President of Mexborough Rotary Club in 1941-42. He assisted in the inauguration of Mexborough Active Services Comforts Fund during the early days of the war and helped considerably in the work of the Montagu Hospital.

At Goole he has the third largest parish in the Diocese. Besides the Parish Church there are three other churches, and Mr. Rawlins, who at one time was   Priest-in-Charge of St. John’s., New Ellington, has a staff of three curates and two lay readers.
