A Year Without Home Defeat

Mexboro’s Proud Boast

Mexborough Town have now gone a full year without a home defeat in the Ieague. Indeed it was Saturday, December 28th, 1968, when Hatfield Main went away from Hampden Road with both points, that Yorkshire League table-toppers, Mexborough, last tasted defeat.

And this is a record which former manager, Dennis Grainger, boasts is, “better than that of Leeds United.”

Hard Pushed

However, the South Yorkshire-men will be hard pushed to retain their record tomorrow (Saturday) when Bridlington Trinity will be the visitors.

Although Mexborough head Division by two clear points, the Seasiders, who have lost once this season, lie in fourth pace with games in hand.

Two of the Mexborough squad were in York City’s reserve side which met Chesterfield on Tuesday. Although York lost narrowly both players will be given a further run.
