Emigrating to Canada

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Redfern, of Wath Road, Mexborough, and their family, who last Saturday emigrated to Canada under the C.P.R. Farm Cottages Settlement Scheme.

Mr. Redfern, who has been unemployed for six months, has taken advantage of this scheme, which is jointly promoted by the Ministry of Labour and the Canadian Pacific Railway, and with the assistance of the Government he, his wife and six children are being taken to Regina, where agricultural employment will be found for Mr. Redfern, and his family will be provided with a furnished cottage on his employer’s land. His wife and any other member of the family capable of employment will be given work if they desire it, and at the end of twelve months the whole family will be settled on a small holding of their own.

The Canadian Pacific Railway Company, with the co-operation of the Ministry of Labour, have undertaken this scheme for the benefit of families in depressed areas, and Mr. Redfern was one among many applicants from South Yorkshire.
