A Sentimental Journey For Mexborough Couple
A grand old Mexborough couple whose aggregate ages total 175, have “run out” of wedding anniversaries, and yesterday (Thursday) celebrated one for which there is no customary “title”.
The couple. Mr and Mrs J. Massey, of 27. Park Road, Mex-borough, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary — a Diamond Wedding plus.
A family party has been postponed until the end of July but the couple made a visit in the morning which brought back memories of 65 years ago. They visited Conisbrough Parish Church, where they were married, and where they were welcomed by the Vicar, the Rev. G. F. Braithwaite.
Mr James Massey, who is 89, has a fine sporting background. He was goalkeeper with Sheffield Wednesday when they won the Cup in 1893. He also played for Doncaster Rovers.
Both Mr and Mrs Massey were born in Wolverhampton and both their families moved to Denaby when they themselves were children. They have lived in the district ever since and have lived in Mexborough for about 26 years.
They have had 11 children and there are seven sons and three daughters living.
The family party has been postponed until July in order that a son and daughter, Mr Stanley Massey and Mrs Adelaide Dark, and their families will be able to travel from London to be present,
It is also hoped that 15 grandchildren and eight great grand-children will be able to be there.
