Sheffield Daily Telegraph – Tuesday 30 December 1930

A New Roman Catholic Club.

At the opening of the new Roman Catholic Club in Park Road, Mexborough, last night, Canon Leteux, of Denaby, addressed gathering 400 people who assembled for the concert which followed the tea.

He spoke of the obvious appreciation of the club’s commodities, and said that everyone, whether Catholic or not, was welcome there, as the institute was for the social good of the people. He, the parish priest of Mexborough, looked upon them all as parishioners. He appealed to the members to give the club a good name, and to exert their influence on other institutes which needed it.

The club and steward’s house were erected at a cost of £1,500 under the auspices of the Catholic Young Men’s Society, and a new Catholic Church, now approaching completion nearby, will be ready for appropriate opening in April.
