Mr R. Frederick Goddard (66) of 16, Highwoods Road, Mexborough, who has been president of Manvers Main Colliery, N.U.M. branch for almost 20 years, has been awarded the B.E.M. in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

Mr. Goddard, who retired from his coal face job at Christmas, gives up his presidential office on June 20th.

He has worked at Manvers Main for 52 years and as well as being Union president, he has served on many colliery committees including the Checkweigh Fund, of which he was treasurer for a time.

A native of Mexborough, he has been married for 44 years and he and his wife have two sons, Freddy and Pickering, both of whom live in the town.
