Swimming in the Canal

September 1927

Mexborough and Swinton Times September 9, 1927

This is a picture with a moral or two.

These little fellows, and all others who bathe in the canal, are “for it” as they disregarded warnings and prohibitions of the navigation company.

The practice of bathing in the canal is only a nuisance but fraught with great danger. It is, however, prevalent in hot weather in place like Mexborough and Swinton where no public baths are provided.

The Mexborough and Swinton Councils might well study this picture, and reflect that their neglect to provide proper facilities is driving little boys like these into trespass and danger.
