Mexborough Town Victorious.

Mexborough Town  4  Notts County Res  2

Mexborough Town gained a victory over Notts Countv Reserve in a game productive of some very interesting football. The visitors in the first half were distinctly the smarter side, and the home team hardly deserved to be on an equality at the interval. But the value of snapping up opportunities was strikingly evidenced by Bolton and Wathey, who opened each half with surprise goals.

Otherwise, the visitors up the interval had four-fifths of the attack, and got goals through McCulloch and Waterall. Any chance Notts might have had was ruined through the handcap occasioned by the loss, through injury, of their goalkeeper. Shorthanded, the visitors followed pluckily, but Mexborough had distinctly the better the second half, during which goals were added, without reply from the visitors.

The game was one the best of the season, and the gate showed welcome improvement.

Denaby Crack Up.

Castleford  8   Denaby United 2

At Castleford, held their own up the time when Handley obtained the home side’s third goal, for Crozier’s two goals had been sandwiched between two from Palmer, of Denaby, and the crowd were prepared for almost anything happening.

The sudden break-np of the Don Valley team was a surprise, and with Castleford smartening their attack, Marshall had busy time in the Denaby goal.

Castleford pierced the defence, however, on six occasions in the last half hour. Crosier adding another goal, and thus completing his hat trick. Longbottom netted twice, Burt, Gadsby and Handley being the other scorers.

Denaby retired very badly beaten by a score of eight goals to two.
