Denaby United 0  Mexborough Town 1

By a penalty goal Mexborough Town passed into the next round at the expense of Denaby United. The fact that ten forwards and six half-backs could not muster a solitary goal amongst them is sufficient evidence that both sides had left their shooting boots at home.

Man for man Mexborough certainly suggested the better side, but, truth to tell, the game was a poor one, its only redeeming feature being its palpable earnestness, and the fact that the encounter was on the whole, clean.

The attendance fell short of expectations, the “gate” realising about £60. To Denaby’s credit they made Mexborough gallop all the way, but the match produced little that was really satisfying. There was a not a single concerted movement by either attack, while even the backs, despite the lack of goals, were streaky. Murray, of Mexborough being easily the best of the four.

It was probably the poorest time yet played by the teams in English Cup opposition. The result is curious, in that 1—0 is the score by which Mexborough have beaten Denaby the three times the clubs have met in the competition.
