Midland League.

Vital Game To-Day in Championship.

Green in Great Form.

As Bradford City Reserves were without game on Saturday the problem of the championship of the Midland League Was not affected the matches which took place.

To-day, however, a solution may furnished, for Bradford City have to visit Lincoln City, and they require two points from the game tie with Grimsby Town Reserves at the top of the table. If they do, a deciding game will have to be played.

Goals by Harston (2), Patterson, and Harvey gave Barnsley Reserves an easy win over Newark at Oakwell, and but for the excellent goalkeeping of Best and capital display York, Barnsley would have scored several more goals. Harston twice struck the woodwork and York often made desperate clearances. Gale made a particularly daring save by diving at the feet of Smith, who Later obtained Newark’s only goal- Pearson also struggled gamely against the Barnsley attack, in which Harston. Patterson, and Storer were most prominent. Ridyard, Todd, and Holmes were good in the Barnsley defence. Morton, a former Barnsley winger, was the pick of Newark’s moderate attack

To the surprise of the home crowd Scunthorpe United were beaten 2-1 by Chesterfield Reserves. Heavy showers had made the going bad, but it is difficult to find an excuse for Scunthorpe’s poor display. With the exception of Boynham the team did not show their real form. Abel arid Peacock scored for Chesterfield, and two minutes from the end Pattison scored for Scunthorpe from penalty.

Three Penalties at Lincoln.

Scarborough thoroughly deserved their 5—2 win over Lincoln City Reserves, on the Sincil Bank, Saturday. The Junior “Imps might, however, have turned their defeat into a victory, for they were awarded two penalties. Halliday and Ward both failing with the kicks. Lincoln served up pretty football in the first half and were deservedly two goals up after 15 minutes. Scarborough drew level before the interval. After Lincoln had been awarded their two unproductive penalties, Scarborough got the winning goal five minutes from the end. Hid. Severn ‘pen.) and Rand scored for Scarborough, and Halliday and Ward for Lincoln.

Hull City Reserves beat Grantham by 6 – 2 at Hull. In the early part of the game Grantham put up an excellent show, and only the clever work of Maddison prevented more goals than the one which was scored Sullivan. Hull came into the picture just before the interval, and Shankly equalised and Taylor placed them ahead. In the second half Raleigh (2), Taylor, and Turner scored for Hull, and for Gainsborough.

Wombwell took their chances at Doncaster, and scored through Wraith and Waring to win 2—0. The football was of poor quality, neither side showing much combination, but the conditions were all against accurate football. For three-fourths of the game Doncaster played with ten men, being injured. For Doncaster Bowman, Flowers, and Beresford were the pick.

Two “Hat-Tricks.”

A first half “hat trick ’’ by Green played a big part in Gainsborough’s 4—1 victory over Frickley Colliery at South Elmsall. Green was in wonderful form, being a thrustful leader and smart opportunist. The Colliery had good share of the game after the interval, but the forwards were weak near goal. Charlesworth reduced the arrears, but Boucher added a fourth for Gainsborough.

In heavv rain and on a sodden ground, Mansfield Town, at home, beat Rotherham United Reserves by 3 – 2. There was little to choose between the sides, but, if anything the visitors were smarter. Hill scored all the Mansfield goals, and Hapgood and Nock got through for Rotherham.

At Loughborough the Corinthians beat Denaby United by 1 – 0. The conditions were very bad and the game did not, reach any great heights. Bennett, at outside-right, was the best of Denaby’s forwards, and Heathcote and Taylor, at back, and Hannan, in goal, did splendidly in defence. Loughborough did most of the pressing in the second half, but the Denaby defence held out until the last minute, when Ingram scored.
