Promising Young Middleweight

South Yorkshire has a promising young middleweight in 22 year old Vernon Wood, second son of Mr and Mrs. A. V. Wood, of 53, Lorna Road, Mexborough.

Wood, who was 22 last month, has been interested in the game since he was 17 and received a good deal of his early training from Alf Crummack, the Wath man.

He achieved considerable distinction by his selection some months ago to represent the “Daily Mail” £2,000 heavyweight competition, having arrived there by success in eliminating bouts, but was knocked out in semi-finals at Kettering.

In November he went down to Bristol following an invitation to join the I.T.C. boxing team under the supervision of Major Morgan.
