Conisbrough to Teach Russians Cricket

The proposed game of a delegation of young Russians who are visiting the area in June was released to the “South Yorkshire Times” on Tuesday by Area Youth Officer, Mr Alan Henry.

Mr Henry said: “The party will be arriving at Doncaster railway station at midday on June 4th.

They will have lunch and tea with local families at Swinton, then go to a welcoming social at the new Wath youth centre.

“On the Monday they are to visit the’ Sheffield Telegraph and Star’ buildings, in Sheffield, where they will be entertained to lunch, and in the afternoon they visit Walsh’s department store, where they will have tea.

“In the evening they will visit homes in the Goldthorpe area.

At College and Pit

“On the Thursday morning they will go to Mexborough Grammar School Sixth Form College, where they will have lunch and in the afternoon Hickleton Main Colliery, followed by tea in the canteen.

“On Tuesday night they will visit homes in the Dearne.

“They are all going to Scarborough on the Wednesday, and while there will take part in discussions at Scarborough Training College.

“On the Thursday they are to visit the C.I.D. headquarters at Wakefield, with lunch at the staff canteen, followed In the afternoon by displays of singing and drama at Bretton Hall teacher training college, where they will have tea

“In the evening they are to be guests of the Greasbrough social club,” said Mr Henry.

They will see the 90 year old Pilsley Junior School, at Chesterfield on Friday morning – “a contrast to Mexborough Sixth Form College” – and then spend the afternoon at Edale in the Hope Valley.

On Friday night they will attend a civic reception at Goldthorpe welfare Hall given by Dearne Urban Council.

Saturday shopping

On the Saturday morning the party will shop in Mexborough. Then in the afternoon have the intricacies of cricket explained to them as guest of Conisbrough cricket club.

They will depart for a major city on Saturday night.
