Wardle’s Record

In a letter to the Denaby Cricket club secretary, Mr Norman Stead, secretary of the Yorkshire Cricket Council, states that from available records the highest number wickets secured in a season is 100.

This feat had been accomplished on three occasions by players of the Saltaire Club, as follows: in 1930 H. Smith, and in 1941 and 1942 J.Lawrence.

Wardle’s figures up to date for this season are 101 wickets for sunroom 40 runs, an average of 7.32.

There are two more features of the Denaby programme for the season, so Wardle stands a good chance of creating a record that will take some beating.

Mexborough have now completed their Section features. Denaby can overtake Swinton if they win their two remaining matches and Swinton loose to Rockingham.
