In the glorious sunshine of Saturday morning and with a full peal of bells resounding from the belfry of the old world village church of Isleworth in Middlesex, there was solemnised a wedding of much interest in Mexborough district residents.
Mr Frank Clayton Baron, son of Mrs Baron, of 182, Doncaster Road, Mexborough, and the late Mr W Baron, was the bridegroom, and his bride was Miss Maria Elsie poppe, daughter of Mrs Poppe, of 21, call Pat Gardens, Twickenham, Middlesex, and the late Mr A. L. Poppe.
The church was crowded. Most of the village attended the wedding of the popular daughter of the very well known London rubber manufacturer, late Mr Poppe, and besides numerous Mexborough people there were guests from Holland, Germany and America.
The bride acknowledged the cheers of the crowd with a smile as she entered the porch attired in a finely cut white silk tulle creation of a white taffeta silk, and an 8 yards long silk told Madonna Vale flowed behind her, lightly held in place and surmounted by a headdress of white lilac. Her bouquet was of lilies of the valley.
Within the church the organ was sounding fourth wedding music, and decorations of madonna lilies and daffodils relieve the Ancient austerity of the building.
The bride was given away by her cousin Mr Sidney poppe, and she was attended by three bridesmaids, Miss Nancy Clayton, of Mexborough, the bridegroom’s cousin, Miss Joan Ashton, of London, and Miss Joan Wright, the bride’s cousin, also of London. They were attired in pale lavender chiffon over lavender taffeta silk with little Coatees. They had lavender tulle veils surmounted by wreaths of lilac, gold shoes, and carried bouquets of Easter daffodils. Their gold bracelets when we present from the bridegroom.
Mr Bernard Pearce was best man and groomsmen were Mr Wilfred poppe and Mr strange.
Mrs Baron was dressed in a black and white creation, whilst the bride’s mother favored a Wedgewood blue two-piece suit with nigger hat and shoes.
After the ceremony and reception was held at the Calcot hotel, Twickenham, the guests being received in the banqueting hall where the wedding breakfast was served.
There were over 50 guests present including the Mexborough residents. The couple had planned a continental honeymoon, but the threatening international situation because unforeseen complications, and Mr and Mrs Baron decided to tour England by car, leaving shortly after the reception for an unknown destination.
The bride traveled in a blue marocain two-piece costumes to with hat and shoes to match. In carried a must squash coat, the gift of the bridegroom her own gifts to her husband were a signet ring and a writing desk.
Mr Baron is an old school boy of Mexborough secondary school, and later took an honors B.Sc. At King’s College, London. He is now associated with Messrs. Yardley’s Perfume manufacturing laboratories.
