Mr Edwin Haigh (Mexborough) and Miss Evelyn Maud Knapton (Mexborough)

The senior bandsman and Young People’s Road Sergeant of the Mexborough Corps of the Salvation Army, Mr Edwin Haigh, son of Mr and Mrs J Haigh, 99 Arnold Crescent, Mexborough, was married at this Citadel to Miss Evelyn Maud Knapton, daughter of Mr and Mrs R Knapton 4, Oxford Street, Mexborough.

Major M. Painder, former officer at Mexborough, now at Wallsend officiated. The organist was Miss Ena Sanderson. F.V.C.M., and the Salvation Army Band accompanied the singing of the hymns. Solos were sung by Mr. Joe Haigh, of Hayes, Middlesex.

Given away by her father, the bride wore a gown of white lace and net over taffeta with a veil held by orange blossom. Her bouquet was of white chrysanthemums and pink carnations and her attendants were Miss Mary Knapton and Miss Ena Haigh.

The maids, who received from the bridegroom a Salvation Army song book and handbag respectively, were attired In dresses of pink net and taco over taffeta trimmed with violet coloured velvet ribbon. Their head-dresses were of pink and white pearls, and they carried muffs of velvet to tone.

Mr. B. B. Stunell was best man and  groomsmen were Mr. John Haigh and Private Jack Stunell. Among the wedding gifts was a cruet from members of the Junior Band, a cheque from colleagues of the bridegroom at Denaby Main Colliery and several gifts from the staff, proprietor and residents of the Buckingham Hotel. Buxton, where the bride was employed.
