Wedding – Chappell & Brookes

The marriage took place last Thursday at Mexborough Central Methodist Church of Mr. Alan Brookes, B.Sc.. only son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Brookes, 28. Harlington Road, Mexborough, and Miss Muriel Joan Chappell, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Chappell, 8, Carlyle Road. Mexborough.

The Rev. J. H. Barker (former minister) officiated, assisted by the Rev. J. H. Cretney. The hymns. “The voice that breathed o’er Eden” and O perfect love” were sung at the choral service. Attired in a gown of ivory lace over crepe-de-Chine cut on princess lines with train, tulle veil, coronet of lilies and carrying lilies, the bride was given awn by her father.

She was attended by Miss Marjorie Wass, wearing a lace dress of cover over blue, and Miss Millie Walford in a lace dress of blue over clover. Both wore head-dresses of anemones with veils. A small attendant, Miss Jean Beaumont, wore shell pink lace over satin and pink Juliet cap. All carried anemones. Mr. F. Jones was best man and Mr. A. Chappell, groomsman.

A reception was held at the Park Hotel.

The bride and bridegroom are old students of Mexborough Secondary School and the latter is a member of the staff of Commercial Travellers’ Boarding School, Hatch End, Middlesex. The bride is on the staff of Tiptaft and Smith, Accountants. Mexborough.
