Mr. J. R. Woods (Swinton), and Miss S. J. Barry (Shipley)
Miss Sheila Josephine Barry, youngest daughter of Mrs and the late Mr. A. F. Barry, of 4 Avondale Crescent, Shipley, was married on August 11th at the Catholic Church, Shipley, to Mr. John Robert Woods, elder son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Woods, of 30, Wortley Avenue. Swinton.
Father L. Mitchell officiated, and the organist was Miss Mary Barry, the bride’s sister.
Given away by her brother, Mr. Brian Barry, the bride wore a gown of white embossed taffeta with an embroidered net veil and a head-dress of orange blossom and gardenias. Attending her were her sister, Miss Nancy Barry, and her nieces, Miss Joan Barry and Miss Mary Barry.
Scarlet was the motif of their dresses, the bride’s sister wearing a gown of white embossed taffeta with scarlet accessories and the other two attendants wearing spotted organdie dressed with scarlet accessories.
All three carried carnations and received from the bridegroom, wristlet watches and bracelets.
Mr Bernard Seagrave of Mexborough, was best man and the groomsman was Mr J Connor of Shipley.
After the reception the couple left for the Trossachs, the bride travelling in a lido blue embroidered edge-to-edge coat, a floral dress, and burgundy accessories. The bride’s mother was attired in a black marocain twopiece and a flower trimmed toque.
Bride and bridegroom are members of Mexborough Players Dramatic Society and Denaby Welfare Tennis Club. The bride, a member of the teaching Staff of Adwick Road School, Mexborough, received an electric timepiece from her colleagues.
