A beautiful wedding, of considerable local interest, was solemnised in the Mexboro’ Parish Church on Tuesday afternoon, the parties being Mr. George Reginald Hill, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Hill, of “Leafy Bank,” Church Street, Mexboro’, and Miss Muriel Richardson, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Richardson, “The Hawthorns,” Doncaster Road, Mexboro’. The ceremony was witnessed by a large congregation, and was conducted by the vicar of Mexboro’, the Rev. F. Briggs. D.D. Mr. G. A. Nixon, uncle of the bridegroom, was at the organ.
The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a gown of white satin beaute trimmed with diamente and silver bugles. Her veil, of silk net (lent by Mrs. Hartley, cousin of the bridegroom) was embroidered with marguerites. Her bouquet was of “Madam Butterfly” roses.
She was attended by Miss Barbara Elliott, Miss Marjorie Richardson (cousin), Miss Eva Watson, and Miss “Patsy” Walton (niece of the bridegroom). Miss Elliott and Miss Richardson wore eau-de-Nil georgette and black picture hats, and the small maids wore shell-pink crepe-de-Chine with Dutch bonnets. The elder bridesmaids carried bouquets of salmon-pink carnations and the younger sweet peas.
The bridegroom was attended by Mr. Harold Saxton as best man and by Mr. Albert Shelton and Mr. Wm. Richardson as groomsmen.
Before and after the ceremony Mr. Nixon played the following items: Improvisation; Serenade (Macfarren), Hymn of Nuns (Wely), Romance (Please), Wedding March (Mendelssohn)
