The very keen frost was responsible for a number or bursts in the water mains of the town, and as a result the distribution system was affected.

By skilful manoeuvring a supply was maintained throughout last week, but the position became so bad that on Sunday there was nothing for it but to cut off the whole supply for 19 hours until the more urgent repairs had been carried out.
