Violent Boxer.
Fine for Assault on Man in Train.
Arnold Thompson, a miner and a boxer, of Mexborough, was fined and bound over at Doncaster yesterday for assaulting Philip Boon, another miner, of Mexborough.
Mr. A. S. Furniss, of Rotherham who appeared for Boon, said that two public-house pleasure parties were returning by train from Scarborough to Mexborough.
Between York and Selby, Thompson left one party and walked along the footboard of the moving train over the buffers and into the saloon of the other party. He was eventually turned out, but when they reached Doncaster he again entered the saloon and assaulted several people. He was then given in charge of the guard.
On reaching Mexborough, Thompson struck Boon a violent blow, knocking him down. Thompson had evidently had too much to drink. Thompson, in the box, said that Boon was the aggressor.
