Unitarian Ministers Debarred

The Executive Council of Toc.H. has decided to debar Unitarian ministers from appointment as padres.

The Unitarian minister at Mexborough, the Rev. Kenneth Bond, commenting on this decision to a “Times” reporter, said: “I think it a great mistake, but I suppose the Toc.H. people know their own business best. If they are prepared to be narrow-minded, there is no more to be said. We Unitarians are accustomed to being treated like this, but it makes no difference to us; -we carry on. The action of the Central Council of Toc.H does not affect us as a church. We are disciples of Christ, and nothing that they can do or say makes any difference to that or to us. During the war many Unitarians laid down their lives, and who knows that the Unknown Soldier in Westminster Abbey was not a Unitarian? Whether this action will do Toc.H. good or- harm is a matter for them, and not for us, to consider, but I am sorry for Toc.H. and not for myself or my church.”
