Unadulterated Milk at Mexboro’.
Jos. Parks a milk dealer, of Mexboro’, was summoned at the instance of Mr. Jos. Wilson, for selling adulterated milk at Mexboro’, on the 21st Oct.
Mr. J. McGrath, assistant solicitor for the West Riding County Council prosecuted.
Mr. Joseph Wilson, an inspector under the Food and Drugs Act, employed by the County Council, said on the 21st Oct. he was taking samples of milk at Mexboro’, where he saw the defendant selling milk in Main Street. As usual, witness asked him for a pint of milk, for which he tendered twopence. He sent a sample of it to the public analyst, and according to the analyst’s certificate it was adulterated by twelve parts of added water.
The defendant stated that he had sold milk for 28 years, and had met Mr. Wilson frequently, and had never tried to get out of his way, but lately he had been a cow short and had had to purchase milk from four different persons.
The inspector said that the defendant had always sold good milk.
The defendant was fined 40s., including the costs.
