The Proposed Petty Sessional Court For Mexbro’.

The inhabitants of Mexbro’ have much confidence that the proposed application at Quarter Sessions for the establishment of a police court in their midst will be successful, and it was yesterday officially admitted at Doncaster that Mr. Bolsover, the mover in the matter, had “drawn up a brief which was scarcely likely to fail.”

The population of Mexbro’ and the contiguous villages of Swinton, Denaby, Conisbro’, Bolton, Adwick, and Barnbro’ is close upon 18,000; the board room at the Market Hall is looked upon as a very suitable place for the holding of a court, and is, without a doubt, far superior to that which has for a long time been in use at Thorne; and it is thought there can be little difficulty in securing suitable justices of the peace, in case it would be inconvenient for any of the magistrates at Doncaster to attend.

The expense incurred in taking witnesses to Doncaster is a large item, and the question of costs has often been a subject of comment by the bench. It is understood that the people of Wath would not consent to be included as supporters of the scheme, they preferring to send cases, as usual, to Rotherham.
