The Gale in the Don Valley.
A terrific gale blew across the Don Valley last night.
In some parts in the neighbourhood of Mexbro’ lamps were blown out, and falling slates and bricks rendered locomotion dangerous, but no cases of accident were reported.
The driver of the mail cart declared that it was with the greatest difficulty that directed the horse and vehicle over the bridge spanning the river at Denaby, and that more than once he feared the hurricane would capsize the cart.
Traffic on the railway was somewhat impeded by the gale.
