Inquest Explanation of Mexborough Manager’s Death.

A “Suicide whilst of unsound mind ’ was returned at the inquest yesterday on George William Ashton (45), manager of Mexborough Hippodrome.

Evidence was given that Ashton was found lying on a table in the bathroom the rear of the theatre late Wednesday night by Isaac Bond, the stage manager. The only reason suggested for Ashton’s action was poor business at the theatre. He had no other worries.

It was stated that had been missing from his home since early on Wednesday morning.

Mr. R. Marsh, solicitor, of Rotherham, representing the owner of the theatre, Mr. Smith, said that the books had been examined, and were in satisfactory order.
