Mr Joseph Tyas a former bandmaster of the Mexborough English Concertina Band, who on Saturday performed the Opening ceremony in connection with the new club premises acquired by the Band in Dolcliffe Road, Mexborough.

Mr. Tyas joined the Concertina Band nearly thirty years ago, and  was a most successful conductor.

During his regime the Band competed in various parts of the country and acquired considerable fame, winning prizes in various competitions, including a first at the Crystal Palace.

He was succeeded twelve years ago as bandmaster by Mr. Edwin Purshouse, the present conductor, who has being a member of the Band for 22 years.
