Mexborough and Swinton Times December 25, 1891
Strange Proceedings at Mexborough.
Mary Holst, of Crewe, was charged with having been drunk and disorderly at Mexborough. On Saturday night, about 9 o’clock, the occupiers of a house in Doncaster Road left home and forgot to fasten the door. The prisoner was seen to stagger into the house and lock yourself in. The police were informed of the affair. Police constable Cade had to break windows first unfasten it, and then entered the kitchen.
East then saw the prisoner lying in front of the fire on a hearth rug. She had not interfered with anything.
On the way to the Police Station she assaulted several persons. She was accommodated with a weeks lodging at Wakefield with hard labour.
