Stockport Appointment
For Mexborough Ex-Officer
Mr and Mrs Gledhill’s second son, Mr. Geoffrey Gledhill, took up duties last Thursday as assistant mains engineer to Stockport Corporation. Mr. Gledhill, who is 25, has held a similar position with Worksop Corporation since he was demobilised from the Royal Navy two years ago with the rank of Lieutenant.
Educated at Mexboro’ Grammar School, Mexborough Schofield Technical College and Worksop Technical College, Mr. Gledhill had been with Worksop Corporation since he left school. He was for five years a premium apprentice in the Electricity Dept. He obtained his National Certificate in Electrical Engineering and his Higher National Certificate and was granted a commission in the Navy as a Sub-Lieutenant.
He served in the mine sweeping branch, and his service included mine sweeping from D Day right through to the Scheldt operations. He was in the Navy three years.
