Three Mexborough Brothers
Three sons of Mr. and Mrs. Wallis, of 14, Alexandra Road, Mexborough, are, or have been, serving in H.M. Forces.
They are Lance/Corporal Howard Wallis (22), who was working in Scotland at the outbreak of war and joined the R.E., but was discharged owing to ill-health. Howard is now an air raid warden at Mexborough.
Lance/Corporal Roland Wallis (24), a joiner by trade, joined H.M. Forces at Christmas, 1939, and went to France in January. Roland was at work when the Germans broke through the French lines and had to change his tools for a rifle and fight his way to the coast.
The third son. (Private Thomas Wallis, joined the Army last year. and is now serving with the R.A. in England. Before joining up Thomas worked at the Balby Street School as a teacher.
