Cpl. Frank Stacey served for two years in Iraq before being moved to Belgium and before joining up he was a butcher.
Pte. Eric Stacey, who is serving with the K.O.Y.L.I. in Italy was recently awarded the Military Medal for his part in the Anzio beachhead fighting. The official citation dealing with the award states “He was employed as a runner and for a period of five days in May his company occupied an exposed position in the British line in the beachhead. He was constantly engaged in delivering messages to the forward platoons and guiding ration parties by night. All movement over the ground from company headquarters to the forward platoons was observed by the enemy by day and was subjected to heavy mortar and machine-gun fire. On May 12th one of the ration parties was lost and Pte. Stacey searched for the party until he found them. He then personally led the party and the rations were delivered.
The award is given for Pte. Stacey’s constant readiness to go out under fire and his complete disregard of danger, which showed a devotion to duty of the highest order.” Gnr. Ernest Stacey (31), an older brother, is serving with the Royal Artillery.
