Brothers Meet in Italy

Driver Ashton (23) and Pte. Kenneth Ashton (26), second and youngest sons of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Ashton of Mexborough, have met in Italy, spending four days together.

Pte. Ashton described their meeting in a letter to their sister Mrs. L. E. Axe, 82, Dolcliffe Road, Mexborough.  His brother, he wrote, was able to watch him take part in a unit football match.  Kenneth formerly worked at Balby and joined up shortly before the war and has been 2 ½ years abroad, serving in Iraq, Persia and North Africa.  Harry joined up 2 ½ years ago and has been 18 months abroad.

While in Sicily he met another Mexborough lad, Jack Stunnell.

The late Mr. Ashton, their father, was manager of the old Hippodrome Theatre from 1920 to 1928.
