Private W Whitehouse
(9th Essex Regiment)
is now in hospital in Colchester.
In a letter to his mother, who lives at 54 West Road, Mexborough, he explained that he has been laid out on March 14 by a rifle grenade accident, which killed three men and wounded 12.
He himself was rather badly peppered, principally in the right shoulder and left side.
His friend was killed outright, and Whitehouse had bandaged him before he realised that he himself was badly hit.
Private Whitehouse is now making excellent progress.
