Private Wharton of 47, Helena. St., Mexboro’, has been killed in action in France.
He was originally reported missing, believed killed, on April 28, and is officially reported killed.

Before enlistment, in August, 1915, he was employed at the Denaby Main Colliery.

He was wounded in August, 1916.

In reply to an inquiry by his parents, Pte. Fred Stables, of Ulverston, Lanes., has, written them stating that their son was killed in the trenches by a sniper, and he adds: “At the time I was standing beside him. He died instantly. We were good pals Tom and I.
