Lance Corporal John West, 6, York street, Mexboro’, has been awarded the Military Medal for gallant conduct in Italy

“On June 15, 1918, this N.C.O. throughout a most intense bombardment, in his capacity as company cook prepared hot tea and meals for the men, in grave personal danger. By his absolute disregard of personal safety and his untiring devotion to duty he set a most splendid example to all his comrades.

In listen to ‘his own work he also proved of imluable assistance in rendering first aid to the wounded.”

Lcp. West, who is 29 years of age, enlisted in November, 1914, and has seen service in France as well as Italy.
