Young Mother Widowed.

News was received on Saturday by Mr. and Mrs. B. Swann, of 234. Wails Road, that their Mexborough, their eldest son, Bertie Swann (21), had been killed while fighting in Belgium.

He was called up with the first batch of militia last 0ctober, before which he worked at Dale Brown’s glassworks. He was born at Mexborough and educated at Roman Terrace School.

Bertie is a well-known footballer, having played as a boy for Roman Terrace School and Mexborough and District Schoolboys and later for Dale Brown’s.

He is married and his wife gave birth to a son on Monday morning. She lives at 42, Dryden Road, Mexborough.
