Mexborough and Swinton Times October 6, 1917

Mr Frank Leonard Stevens, only son of Mr F.T. Stevens, Register of Births and Deaths and Mrs Stephen of Park Road, Mexborough, has been gazetted to a second lieutenancy in the York and Lancaster Regiment.

He was a former student teacher on the staff of the Central Boys School, Mexborough, and is an “old boy” of the Mexborough Secondary School. He enlisted at the age of 18 in the Durham Light Infantry and was subsequently drafted to Newmarket for cadet training.

He is19 years of age.
