19 Creswell St, Mexborough, was killed in action on May 26 in France.

He was a married man, with four children, and enlisted in September 1914.

He was wounded during the Somme fighting last July, when his brother, Private Tom Smith, was killed.

He was 29 years of age, before enlistment was employed at Frickley Colliery
