Soldier’s Broadcast
Mr. and Mrs. H. Riley, of 136, Hirstgate, Mexborough listened in on Sunday morning at 7-50 to a broadcast message by their son, Pte. E. Riley, who is serving abroad.
They heard Pte. Riley say: “Hello mam, darling and everybody. Hoping all the gamily is well. I am spending my leave in Nairobi. Taking the pleasure of wishing you all a merry Christmas. Lots of love.”
Pte. Riley, who will be 22 next month, is stationed in Madagascar. He has been in the Army for 21 months, and since he left home in February 1942, his family have not seen him.
Before joining the Army, Pte. Riley was a bricklayer’s apprentice at Malty. He was educated at Schofield Street Council School.
