Mexborough and Swinton Times April 28, 1917
Trooper Tom Reed
(Yorkshire Dragoons)
of 86 Horace Villas, Main Street, Mexborough, was killed in action in France on April 9th.
He was 24 and single, and enlisted in November 1915. He went to France on Christmas Day 1916.
Mrs Reid has received from Cpl E Tansey the following letter of sympathy:
“it is with extreme regret that I have to inform you that your son was killed on Easter Monday. Tom was a favourite in his platoon with both officers and men, and we are proud of him.
He died like a hero and bravely stood by his post to the last.
The members of the platoon sincerely pray that God will give you strength to bear the terrible loss you have sustained. Tom, by his cheeriness, kindness and bravery, had endeared himself to us all.
