Soldier – Price, Albert – Killed in Action

November 1917

Mexborough and Swinton Times November 3, 1917

Pte. Albert Price (Yorkshire Regiment)

Killed in action on Oct. 3, in France.

Private Price, who was single, aged 26, was an orphan, and made his home with his elder sister, Mrs. Edmondson, of 23, Shelley Street, Mexborough.

He enlisted in Sept., 1915, and was previously employed as a miner at Manvers Main. A very kind message of sympathy has been received from Sec.-Lieut. E. P. Holgate, who wrote :—

” It is with deep regret that I have to inform you that your brother was killed on Oct. 5. He was shot through the head by a bullet from a machine gun while on patrol. His loss has been a severe blow to his comrades, and it is the company that wish that I should tender their deepest sympathy to you in your sad bereavement. In and out of the trenches he was always merry and ‘bright, and was very popular with all who knew him. His Work was of the finest quality, and he was at all times very trustworthy. He was much appreciated by his officers.’
