Soldier’s Broadcast

Sending greetings to his mother, Mrs. G. Newell of Cemetery Lodge, Mexborough, Private John Thomas Newell, now with the R.A.M.C. in Eritrea, took part in the Cairo Calling broadcast on Sunday morning.

He expressed a wish that his mother had recovered from her recent illness, and asked to be remembered to all his friends at Mexborough, including those at the Park Hotel, where he used to give help.  He added greetings to his nephew and niece, Clive and Janet, children of his brother, Mr. George Newell and to his friends at Leeds and Ormskirk, and concluded by informing his mother that her letters continued to reach him.

Pte. Newell has been in the Army nearly four years and has been abroad nearly two. He is well known in Mexborough, where he was Cemetery Superintendent before being called up.
